Best UK Holidays – Other Self-Catering Ones

Hello again. In this third article on the Best UK Holidays, I am going to write about other sorts of self-catering holidays. Some of these you may never have heard of, others you may have, but may not have tried before.

The first I shall write about is self catering flats. This really speaks for itself, but if you have not tried one, let me give you a taster. My wife and I used to visit Southborne, near Bournemouth, on a regular basis and we would usually aim to stay in a flat, in a purpose built block, just across the road from the cliff-top. We loved it!! The point is that the flats were purpose built for holiday makers, and would not have suited long term habitation. For a week’s holiday or possibly a fortnight, we would accept the slightly lower standard of accommodation, because we believed the venue was worth the sacrifice. When I say “lower standard of accommodation”, this usually meant that the kitchen would be fairly basic, with cooking facilities limited to a microwave and a toaster and there was not a lot of storage space in the bedroom for our clothes. Those things aside, the beds were top class and in most cases the views were to die for! You will not find a lot of web sites advising on holiday flats, because they tend to be per resort, rather than a chain owning blocks in several locations. So if this is the sort of thing you want, decide where you wish to go for your holiday, see if the resort has a web-site, and you will find the self-catering accommodation listed there. (more…)

Best UK Holidays ? More Self Catering Ones

As I promised in my previous article, I am going to write about other forms of self catering holidays, which have not already been covered. The best UK holiday of your life might be among these ones!!

The first one I am writing about today is the touring caravan holiday. It is first, simply because I have never spent a holiday in a touring caravan, so really cannot comment on its merits or otherwise. I know there are many touring caravans about and they do appear to be popular. If you have not already tried this form of holiday, it is possible to hire a caravan to try the lifestyle before you commit to purchasing one. There are many places where you may park your caravan, so you will be spoilt for choice. Most of the large static caravan parks have areas set aside where tourers may be parked.

My second topic is tenting. I have not holidayed in a tent for long time and I know they have come on in leaps and bounds since I did so. It is possible to get very luxurious tents, and for those who enjoy this form of holiday, they are home from home. Light-weight fabrics and advanced construction techniques mean that it is usually very easy to erect the tent and to take it down again. The inside of the tent may be as well equipped, or indeed, as Spartan, as you like, so you suit yourself.

Windsurfing Holidays – 5 Steps To Choosing The Best

Insider tips for choosing the best windsurfing holidays and getting a great windsurfing experience:

1. Decide whether to go ‘all inclusive’ with your windsurf holidays – as with any kind of holiday you will need to choose whether to have everything included: flight, accommodation, windsurf equipment rental and windsurfing lessons.

In favor of all-inclusive windsurfing holidays, they are usually a good deal in terms of price.  You can relax and let others take care of your arrangements.

At the other end of the scale are the self-made windsurf holidays.  You can tailor the experience exactly how you want it (not that it always goes to plan!).  In terms of windsurfing equipment, by bringing your own, you can be in control of exactly what kit you will be using on your windsurf holidays but the cost of transportation (we are talking a few £100) can over shadow this freedom.

A good compromise would be to book some equipment for windsurf hire or windsurfing lessons at your chosen holiday destination but sort out your own travel & accommodation.  This way you get the hassle free feel of having all the windsurfing equipment provided for you yet maintain an element of flexibility by being in charge of your own itinerary. Best UK Holidays

Now my idea of the best holiday will not necessarily be the same as yours, so this series of articles is going to fulfil two purposes. It will allow me to tell you what I personally believe is the best sort of holiday, and perhaps to relate some anecdotes from my holidays. The second purpose is for me to draw your attention to the different sorts of holidays to be had in our wonderful country, and perhaps tempt you into considering a holiday here, rather than jetting off to a foreign location.

I expect to be discussing static caravan holidays, self catering holidays in other sorts of accommodation, hotel and guest-house holidays. I will be looking at different locations for holidays in the UK, and will be revealing the favourite location for the best UK holiday with my wife.

I want to make it clear at this point that I am not totally averse to holidays abroad. I have both lived and holidayed abroad with my wife and family, but these days, as I get older, I find that I prefer to spend my time and money here in the UK. It is usually so much easier and quicker to get to a UK destination, if you live here, than it is to travel abroad. There are usually no language barriers either. (more…)

Are Discount Travel Web Sites Really the Best Deal?

Are Discount Travel Web Sites Really the Best Deal?

The Internet gives you easy access to so much information that you can become overloaded. When traveling this is definitely the case. Friends and fellow travelers tell you to book your trip on line yourself – you’ll save hundreds of dollars. But is that really the case? Will you be able to access the best and lowest deals? Isn’t it quicker and cheaper to do it all yourself? Maybe – maybe not.

Beware the discount web site. Don’t book on the first deal you see. It may claim to be the lowest fare, but you won’t know until you look around and surfing the web for the best price may take quite a while and time is money.

Research of web sites stating they will give you best deal shows up many times as an incorrect claim. Many big travel web sites pay homage to their sponsors and advertisers, by showing their ‘deals’ only. In the airline industry, a number of small carriers are ignored and they may well offer the best deal for you, but you won’t know if their information isn’t displayed.

Prices of air flights differ wildly on the Internet. Try it and see. Go to a number of travel sites and look for fares to Sydney, Australia. See what you get. And this is what you need to do when booking your travel through the web. It might then be worthwhile to see what a travel agent can get for you. Yes they do have a booking fee imposed on your tickets but, did you know that many of the best budget deals are not available on the web? Specific web sites are only accessible to travel agents.  UNTIL NOW!  STUART S. TRAVEL is a full service on-line travel agency. (more…)

Qualified to be the Best ? Why the Travel and Tourism Diploma Attracts Good Jobs

By: Sam Paul

The tourism industry, like any other, reserves its best positions for candidates who can demonstrate qualifications to potential employers. That’s why tourism studies is becoming such a popular training tool. In a business where customer expectations are constantly changing, keeping up with the increased options and demands created by a rapid and consumer oriented world, the travel and tourism diploma offers employees a chance to demonstrate something concrete to their bosses. It’s basically a way of proving that one has the knowledge, the drive and the expertise to respond well to the ever-shifting customer role across all the outposts of the industry: from hotels and hostels to restaurants and bars; from package tours and flight attending to adventure holidays and extreme sports.

The thing about tourism studies, the thing that sets it apart from less “job based” diplomas, is this: it teaches students to develop the skills necessary to read trends in customer expectation, rather than simply cramming their heads full of facts about current customer behaviour. The emphasis is on developing diagnostic and reactive practices (the ability first to work out what the modern customer wants, and then to react to that knowledge) rather than just learning what people want right know. That means that people who hold a travel and tourism diploma are in possession of a piece of paper that proves their ability to grow with a business.
