Qualified to be the Best ? Why the Travel and Tourism Diploma Attracts Good Jobs

The tourism industry, like any other, reserves its best positions for candidates who can demonstrate qualifications to potential employers. That’s why tourism studies is becoming such a popular training tool. In a business where customer expectations are constantly changing, keeping up with the increased options and demands created by a rapid and consumer oriented world, the travel and tourism diploma offers employees a chance to demonstrate something concrete to their bosses. It’s basically a way of proving that one has the knowledge, the drive and the expertise to respond well to the ever-shifting customer role across all the outposts of the industry: from hotels and hostels to restaurants and bars; from package tours and flight attending to adventure holidays and extreme sports.

The thing about tourism studies, the thing that sets it apart from less “job based” diplomas, is this: it teaches students to develop the skills necessary to read trends in customer expectation, rather than simply cramming their heads full of facts about current customer behaviour. The emphasis is on developing diagnostic and reactive practices (the ability first to work out what the modern customer wants, and then to react to that knowledge) rather than just learning what people want right know.
